About Massage Therapists
A Massage Therapist is a regulated health care professional, who must be in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) to practice. A Massage Therapist must complete a 2-3 year diploma program from a recognized school, which includes comprehensive study in massage theory, anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, hydrotherapy, and remedial exercise related to the massage profession. Training also includes supervised clinical experience. Once graduated from the program, a person must pass a certification examination before they can be registered under the CMTO. Massage Therapists must also continue their education under the Quality Assurance Program.
