Your feet are considered your base of support, and have a direct impact on the rest of your body. Problems in your feet can cause a chain reaction of events to occur, and put stress on joints higher up in your body. This stress can lead to joint pain, poor posture, fatigue, and faulty walking mechanics. Properly made orthotics correct your specific foot imbalances and reduce the stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment.
Custom orthotics look like insoles, and there are a variety of styles to accommodate the type of shoes or boots you typically wear. A footwear collection that accommodates your orthotics is also available including sandals, casual and dress shoes, running shoes and work boots.
Dr. Sly, Dr. Knapp, and Dr. Sullivan use the innovative technology of the Footmaxx Company to design custom orthotics. They perform a gait scan analysis using the Footmaxx Metascan, which is a pressure plate that contains thousands of sensors. The Metascan system records the timing and the distribution of pressure of each part of your feet as you walk across the plate. They may also take a foam impression of your feet.
Since our feet contact the ground for approximately 0.9 of a second when walking, the Metascan is able to provide the practitioner with information that would otherwise go unseen. The information from the pressure plate assists the doctors in determining if you need custom orthotics as well as specific modifications that may help you the most. The Metascan information is sent securely to the Footmaxx laboratory where your custom made orthotics are manufactured specifically for your feet.
