Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing practices in the world dating back over 3000 years!

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture works by its effect on local nerves to decrease pain by inducing the body to release endorphins, a natural pain relieving substance, and stimulating healing locally by increasing blood flow and reducing deep scar tissue in the affected structures.

WHO CAN PERFORM ACUPUNCTURE?

In Ontario, the practice of acupuncture has been regulated since 2006. Regulated Health Professionals, including Chiropractors and Physiotherapists, who have fulfilled the educational requirements outlined by their regulatory colleges can perform needle insertion acupuncture. At ACHC, all our chiropractors and physiotherapists are qualified in acupuncture and implement a neurofunctional dry-needling acupuncture approach to effectively modulate abnormal activity of the nervous system.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE USED TO TREAT?

Acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of disorders including:

  • Back Pain and Sciatica
  • Neck Pain and Radiating Arm Pain (Pinched Nerves)
  • Headache – Migraine and Tension
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Tendonitis
  • Elbow Pain (Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow)
  • Wrist Pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Hip Pain

ACUPUNCTURE is the insertion of very thin, fine needles into the body in order to decrease pain and stimulate healing.

Everyone asks, “Does it hurt?” Most people are very surprised by how little they feel the needles. The needles are very fine and they are not hollow which means nothing is injected into or removed from the body.
