Specific rehabilitation exercises are extremely important to ensure full recovery from injury/pain. Rehab exercises come in many forms such as stretching, strengthening, proprioception (or balance), cardiovascular endurance, and motor-retraining.
Every activity we do, whether it is house or yard work, playing golf or soccer, involves a combination of joint mobility and stability.
STABILITY is the ability of any system to remain unchanged or aligned in the presence of change or outside forces. Stability is created by combining balance, strength and muscular endurance.
MOBILITY is the combination of normal joint range of motion and proper muscle flexibility and allows the body to perform any motion without having to sacrifice stability!
The balance between stability and mobility can be altered by an injury or ‘bad habits’, ie poor posture. Rehab exercises are designed to restore strength, muscle endurance, range of motion, and balance to the affected area as well as providing mobility to the scar tissue. Proper rehabilitation decreases your chance of re-injury, enhances sport performance and increases your quality of life.
Rehabilitation is an integral part of any injury management treatment plan. In keeping with our moto to help you “move better, feel better” patients at ACHC are given personalized rehabilitative exercises to enhance their movement capabilities.
